Zanego
– Fabrizio Prevedello
Press Release: With the exhibition ‘Zanego’ by Fabrizio Prevedello, curated by Antonio Grulli, dispari&dispari (Berlin / Reggio Emilia) invites you to the opening party of its new venue for contemporary art events. The location is located in a fraction of the promontory of Monte Marcello in the province of La Spezia, which is called Zanego. In an age-old forest of oaks, olive trees and Aleppo pines overlooking the Gulf of Poets, an ancient tower used for olive processing has been converted into a workshop to offer artists a unique place in which to work and exhibit. The exhibition venue is the forest located in this area and the territory of the natural park of Monte Marcello that surrounds it. There are no walls or visible boundaries. In this project there is the will to promote a reflection on current issues such as our relationship with the landscape and the ecosystem that surrounds us, in a part of Italy that has always been a source from which artists draw for the creation of their own works. For years the artist Fabrizio Prevedello has developed a work related to sculptural and installation research, especially in relation to the territory and the landscape. In particular, many of his works related to the context of the Apuan Alps both as a subject and as a “material” for their realization. For the occasion, he created a series of new installations designed specifically for this place.
Exhibition Preface: Looking around from the promontory of Montemarcello, in the province of La Spezia, it is possi-bile to see one of the most peculiar panoramas in Italy. Toward the south one embraces the Apuan Alps, with their marble quarries, and immediately at their feet the stone deposits and the Versilia coast. Turning our gaze inland, we admire the hills of Lunigiana, full of forests and streams. To the north stands one of the most beautiful and famous coastlines in the world, that of La Spezia, with Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto fading into the sea. It is one of the places where the term territory abandons its provincial campaign meaning and reappropriates its more material, geological and physical content. Let’s gloss over the poets who, from Petrarch to Fortini, via Byron, Keats and the two Shelleys, have lived here and described these places, loving them totally: few other corners of the world can- boast such a close and ancient relationship with art as this land that pivots on Montemarcello. The Stele Statues open up a relationship between art and landscape that will repres-ent in these forms only with modern art and Land Art. Then there are the quarries of Carrara, which have been supplying artists and artisans for millennia, and which in turn now present themselves as an artifice impossible to define whether belonging to the beautiful or the ugly, certainly of the family of the horrid. Finally, Liguria, here made of refined Portoro, but not only, which in the Cinque Terre has welcomed and continues to welcome figures such as Boetti and Pistoletto, and which in turn is a magical land made of the precarious union of a nature continually bent by man with poetic results. And it is also important to highlight the contribution of the La Marrana project, which precisely in Montemarcello has been working on these issues for years with extraordinary re-sults. Here, apart from the case of La Marrana, such a land has been little exploited in my opinion in recent decades both by artists and by those who have orga-nized exhibitions in the area. odd&disparate, with the beginning of its activities, promises to fill at least in part this absence.
