dispari&dispari | Reggio Emilia presents on Saturday 28th April 2007, “The Aesthetic of Drugs”, the first solo show in Italy of Alterazioni Video. This project was born as a reauthoring operation. In a mediated society where the author becomes the one who publishes and disseminates, Alterazioni Video takes possession of the database of the American anti-drug department recontextualizing it. An operation that dialogues with the Hollywood pulp imaginary and reflects on the fascination and attraction that the forbidden and the ilegal exercise. Just as Kate Moss, Britney Spears or Diego Armando Maradona have taught us, the use and abuse of drugs today no longer calls for ‘alternative’ rock and roll imagery (Sid Viscius, Basquiat, Abel Ferrara…) but serves as a keystone for achieving mainstream success in fashion, art or entertainment. The main objective of the exhibition, however, remains to reflect on the conceptual and aesthetic implications of digital redy-made. The possibility to re-authorize the infinite wealth of images on the web at high quality opens new aesthetic perspectives and raises questions about the new function of the author. The group, founded in Milan in 2003, was recently invited to participate in the 52nd edition of the Venice Biennale. “The Aesthetic of Drugs” is open to the public until 24 June 2007.

(ITA) dispari&dispari | Reggio Emilia presenta sabato 28 aprile 2007, “The Aesthtic of Drugs“, la prima personale in Italia di Alterazioni Video. Il progetto nasce come operazione di riautoring. In una società mediata dove l’autore diventa colui che pubblica e diffonde, Alterazioni Video si appropria del database del dipartimento antidroga americano ricontestualizzandolo. Un’operazione che dialoga con l’immaginario pulp hollywoodiano e riflette sul fascino e l’attrazione che esercitano il proibito e l’ilegalismo. Come ci hanno insegnato Kate Moss, Britney Spears o Diego Armando Maradona, l’uso e l’abuso di droghe oggi non richiede più un immaginario rock and roll ‘alternativo’ (Sid Viscius, Basquiat, Abel Ferrara…) ma serve come chiave di volta per raggiungere il successo del mainstream nella moda, nell’arte o nello spettacolo. L’obiettivo principale della mostra rimane comunque quello di riflettere sulle implicazioni concettuali ed estetiche del digital redy-made. La possibilità di ri-autorizzare l’infinita ricchezza di immagini sul web ad alta qualità apre nuove prospettive estetiche e solleva interrogativi sulla nuova funzione dell’autore. Il gruppo, fondato a Milano nel 2003, è stato recentemente invitato a partecipare alla 52a edizione della Biennale di Venezia. “The Aesthtic of Drugs” è aperta al pubblico fino al 24 giugno 2007.
