Press Release: On the occasion of the opening of her solo exhibition “42theFloor / the Shadow Exploded” in the spaces of Dispari&dispari in Berlin, Ulrika Segerberg presents her first short film, inspired by the film “Carrie” directed by Brian De Palma in 1976 and based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Each scene in the film was shot in the studio, using artwork created by the artist specifically for each scene. These sculptures, paintings, ceramics and various objects will be arranged in this first phase of the exhibition according to a strict, traditional approach to guide the imagination without letting it go too far.
Comunicato Stampa: In occasione dell’inaugurazione della mostra personale “42theFloor / the Shadow Exploded” negli spazi di Dispari&dispari a Berlino, Ulrika Segerberg presenta il suo primo cortometraggio, ispirato al film “Carrie” diretto da Brian De Palma nel 1976 e basato sul romanzo di Stephen King del 1974. Ogni scena del film è stata realizzata in studio, utilizzando opere d’arte create dall’artista appositamente per ogni ripresa. Queste sculture, dipinti, ceramiche e vari oggetti saranno disposti in questa prima fase della mostra secondo un approccio rigoroso e tradizionale, per guidare l’immaginazione senza lasciarla andare troppo lontano.
Ulrika Segerberg (Sweden 1976) studied art in Amsterdam and is living and working in Berlin for many years. Her work is a continuous evolution of images, forms, words, materials and colors that develops from one medium into the next. She nurtures and cares for the improvised, the chance, the mistake, the collapse rather than the perfect plan. Various collaborations with artist colleagues and friends lately forms an important part of her working process – together with Katrin Plavčak she is the duo M.O.G. (Mothers of God). With contact-microphones and a looper they improvise on sewing machines. She also writes lyrics and sings in MATKA, an electronic music and vocal project with the producer and musician Martin Kleinmichel.
Ulrika Segerberg (Svezia 1976) ha studiato arte ad Amsterdam e da molti anni vive e lavora a Berlino. Il suo lavoro è una continua evoluzione di immagini, forme, parole, materiali e colori che si sviluppa da un mezzo all’altro. Nutre e cura l’improvvisazione, il caso, l’errore, il crollo piuttosto che il piano perfetto. Le varie collaborazioni con colleghi e amici artisti costituiscono ultimamente una parte importante del suo processo di lavoro – insieme a Katrin Plavčak costituisce il duo M.O.G. (Mothers of God). Con microfoni a contatto e un looper improvvisano su macchine da cucire. Scrive anche testi e canta in MATKA, un progetto di musica elettronica e vocale con il produttore e musicista Martin Kleinmichel.
